GRAFFITY TECHNIQUE
This fun drawing technique, taught to us by teacher Nuria Prado, involved tracing our names in a very curious and different way. It led us to learn about the origins of graffiti as an expression of rebellion on street walls. We learned to work with a ruler, first finding the proportions of the paper and the size of our names, then tracing the lines of each letter without tracing, overlapping them differently to create that graffiti effect. Next, we drew shadows to create the 3D effect. This technique, which I didn’t know before, has become one of my favorites.

THE HAUNTED HOUSE CANVA

THE HAUNTED HOUSE CANVA
To begin our haunted house, we started by drawing a haunted house on a sheet of paper. Mine had details like a castle, and it had to be large.
Next, we painted the windows and doors with yellow crayons and covered the walls with black modeling clay, placing small blobs and spreading them with our fingers to create a smooth, completely covered texture. Then we cut out the house and moved on to the next step.
On black cardstock, we drew three elements related to Halloween; I chose a ghost, a tombstone, and a cross. Afterward, we cut out the figures we drew and started to work on the canvas.
On the canvas, we had to create a gradient of one tone, so we had to choose between three colors: orange, purple, or green.
To achieve this gradient, we gradually mixed white with the base colour; I had chosen purple. We gradually lightened the tone until we reached the pure colour. Once that point was achieved, the gradient would transition to a darker tone, so in this case, we had to mix a little black into the base color to complete the final stage of the technique.
Once the canva was dry, we glued on the house and the other elements. The teacher gave us googly eyes that we could stick anywhere on the canvas; I added them to the tombstone, a window, and the ghost.
Finally, to protect it, the teacher varnished each painting.
My favorite part was drawing the house and painting the canvas with the technique.

HALLOWEEN LETTER NAME

HALLOWEEN LETTER NAME
To make the letters of our name, we were inspired by a Halloween-themed alphabet font. Each letter had skeletons and details that reminded us of the holiday. After calculating the proportions of our names on the cardstock and writing it out, we traced everything in black and colored it with typical Halloween colours: orange, purple, and green, combining them as we liked.
I enjoyed doing this activity because I love to draw and I had fun while doing it.
I love art class!

CARNIVAL MASK

CARNIVAL MASK
My favorite art activity was making a Carnival mask, which we did in several stages.
First, we drew the mask’s face following a pattern on a base with specific outlines and proportions.
Then, we drew the bust of our chosen animal on the mask’s screen in pencil. Some of the typical animals of the Peliqueiros were the eagle, the lion, the tiger, the horse, and the one I drew, the wolf.
Once we finished outlining the animal, we started using charcoal to trace over the animal’s silhouette and add details.
Next, for the background of the screen, we used cotton swabs as «brushes» to paint it with tempera paint, using a technique like pointillism.
Finally, with strips of black plastic, cut into small rectangular pieces, we glued them to the outline of the face to simulate the «felos» (tassels) they wear. We did this activity during Carnival season, focusing on proportion, symmetry, and our Galician Carnival traditions.
